A close friend of mine lost her sweet, four legged friend yesterday. He wasn’t just a dog, or a pet, he was a big part of her family, and he had, and still has, his own special place to curl up inside of my heart. He was always such a ball of sunshine, with his dashing personality. This poem, “I’m Still Here,” by an unknown author, reminds me of my friend and her pug, who will always be a part of our world, and will never be forgotten.
Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.
I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me, friend, I’m everyplace!
“The Art of Racing In The Rain” by Garth Stein, is a book I very highly recommend for anyone who has recently lost a furry part of their family.
I’ve heard of this book. I’ll have to let my friend know, after some time. She’d love it. I myself would like to read it. I finished “A Dog’s Purpose” by W. Bruce Cameron not long ago and absolutely adored it. Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion.
All of us are ephemeral… grieve less on that thought
Thank you.
So sorry. He looks like such a sweet dog.
Thanks, Kirsten. That little guy could put a smile on anyone’s face!
Nice poem, quite a rhythm and transcendental, lost three dogs myself know I´m hoping I can loose the big monster that I have sitting next to me that just keeps farting. By the way I following you on twitter(sounds creepy) and by the way I´ve noticed you have a picture of a dead cat in some weird contorted position, gave me the willies. I showed it to my farting beast called dog and he just smiled though.
I love this poem and I love my dog to pieces. I adored my friend’s dog very much too.
Thanks for the follow on Twitter — I just finally got on there last week. Trying to boost article views for work as well as get some ideas. That picture of the cat isn’t mine, it was a picture PETA put up that I commented on, that I was quite angry about.
Thanks for reading and be good to your dog! 🙂
