Losing luggage during a trip and having nobody to tell you exactly where to find it is one of a traveler’s biggest fears. According to SITA, the world’s leading specialist in air transport communications and information technology, about 26 million bags go missing each year from airports around the world. But with the release of the Trakdot Luggage tracker, those worries can (finally) be put to rest.
Trakdot Luggage is designed for the traveler’s convenience. This handy gadget, slightly larger than a deck of cards, includes a palm-sized tracker and easily fits into a checked bag. It’s powered by two AA batteries, and can connect with any mobile Android, Apple, or SMS-capable device to alert its user of its whereabouts.
The Trakdot Luggage tracker is built for airline passengers to keep tabs on their belongings as they make their way through different airports. It gives peace of mind by reassuring them that their valuables are passing through each city with them.
How Trakdot works
The luggage locator system delivers specific information in real time, reporting which city the baggage has been checked into. Even if the Trakdot protected bag does not reach the desired destination, passengers will still be able to know which city their luggage is located in, and can speed up the recovery process.
By using a quad-band GSM chip and triangulation instead of GPS to save battery power, the tracker’s location can be detected. The tracker can also determine its traveling speed, so once the plane takes off at more than 100 knots, the device will shut down to conserve battery power. When the plane’s speed decreases to below 100 knots, it will turn back on and pinpoint its location.
In order to work, the device must be registered on the Trakdot website. Once that’s done, it gets safely packed inside a checked bag at which point it will begin delivering location information via text or email through the user’s mobile phone or SMS device.
The tracker works globally and is easy to set up with any mobile phone or SMS enabled device. Each device is able to be linked to multiple phones, and each phone can keep tabs on multiple devices.
Considering the important uses and variety of features the Trakdot Luggage tracker provides, it’s priced surprisingly low, at $49.95.
The retail package includes the Trakdot Luggage tracker device, along with a luggage tag and a pair of AA batteries. There’s a one-time activation fee of $8.99 and an annual service fee of $12.99.The easy to use and convenient Trakdot Luggage tracker will be available on March 13.
